1. What is stamp duty Victoria?

Stamp duty (also known as transfer duty) is a tax on buying property. Depending on the price of the property, there will be different Victoria stamp duty rates. You will usually be charged a fixed amount as well as a percentage of the property price. These two components determine your stamp duty.

2. How much is stamp duty in Victoria?

There are four different price brackets your property can fall into and depending on your circumstances you may qualify for an exemption.

$25,001 to $130,000 $350 plus 2.4% for every dollar over $25,000
$130,001 to $960,000 $2,870 plus 6% for every dollar over $130,000
$960,001 and over 5.5% of total dutiable value

3. When do I pay stamp duty in Victoria?

In Victoria you must pay stamp duty within 30 days of settlement.
