1. What is stamp duty NT?

Stamp duty (also known as transfer duty) is a tax on buying property. Depending on the price of the property you’re buying there will be different rates. You’ll be charged a fixed amount as well as a percentage of the property price. These two components determine your stamp duty.

2. How much is NT stamp duty?

For homes worth up to $525,000 there is a formula to calculate your stamp duty. Properties worth over $525,000 will be charged a percentage of the property’s value. Depending on your circumstances you may qualify for an exemption.

Up to $525,000 Duty payable = (0.06571441 x V) + 15V, where V is 1/1,000 of the property’s dutiable value
$525,001 to $3,000,000 4.95% of the property value
$3,000,0001 to $5,000,000 5.75% of the property value
More than $5,000,000 5.95% of the property value

3. When do I pay stamp duty in NT?

In South Australia you must pay stamp duty within 60 days of settlement.
