1. What is stamp duty?

Stamp duty (also known as transfer duty) is a tax on buying property. Depending on the price of the property, there will be different stamp duty rates.

2. How much is stamp duty?

There are different price brackets your property can fall into, and these price brackets vary between the different states and territories. Depending on your circumstances and which state or territory the property is in, you may also qualify for an exemption.

3. Where can I get more information on stamp duty in each state and territory?

Stamp duty is decided by each state and territory government. This means each state and territory has a different set of rates, price brackets and exemptions. There’s a full list of each state and territory’s stamp duty rates below.

How much is stamp duty in NSW? 

There are six different price brackets your property can fall into. Also, depending on your circumstances you may qualify for a discount or an exemption.

Stamp Duty VIC

How much is stamp duty in Victoria?

There are four different price brackets your property can fall into and depending on your circumstances you may qualify for an exemption.

$25,001 to $130,000 $350 plus 2.4% for every dollar over $25,000
$130,001 to $960,000 $2,870 plus 6% for every dollar over $130,000

Stamp Duty QLD

How much is stamp duty in Queensland?

There are five different price brackets your property can fall into. On properties under $5,000 you don’t have to pay stamp duty at all and depending on your circumstances you may qualify for a stamp duty concession QLD.

There are seven different price brackets your property can fall into and depending on your circumstances you may qualify for an exemption.

There are five different price brackets your property can fall into and depending on your circumstances you may qualify for an exemption.

Stamp Duty NT

How much is stamp duty in the Northern Territory?

For homes worth up to $525,000 there is a formula to calculate your stamp duty. Properties worth over $525,000 will be charged a percentage of the property’s value. Depending on your circumstances you may qualify for an exemption.
